Greetings to you all
All of you who are homeowners know how problems small or large can arise – sometimes requiring immediate attention, no matter what else you had planned to do. In our church building, almost 10,000 square feet of space, in facilities that are now over 50 years old, there are always areas of upkeep needing more attention.
I want to express our thanks today to members who volunteer time, energy, attention and resources for special projects and for “those things that go bump in the night”!
A recent example wasn’t exactly a “bump in the night”, but it’s very similar.
⚒ Last Sunday as service was concluding, a condensation leak from the HVAC air handling units just above the 30-foot ceilings started a slow drip. Ian Eberly and Jonathan Nusbaum immediately went to the “catwalk” above the sanctuary to trouble-shoot the source of the leak. Each time a task like that arises, we see the serving ethic at work in a way that benefits the church family – but it usually happens at times and in ways that are not visible to others. We truly appreciate the work these deacons and others do along with their regular duties in media, worship, security, Cafe Liberty and other acts of ministry.
☕Cafe Liberty (9:45-10:15 AM) Sunday, October 26th ~ Many thanks to Mark and Dawn Purtell for serving this Sunday and to Mary Mobley for taking three weeks in a row during October and for all that Jerry and Patty Reese do in serving, upgrading the Cafe Liberty space and inspiring others. There’s an opening for more people serving on the Cafe Liberty schedules in coming months. Prayerfully consider joining the team. Each volunteer helps make the warm welcome for guests stronger each Sunday!
⛪We’re grateful for Senator Justin Ready bringing the message this Sunday. In his work as Senate Minority Whip representing District 5 in the Maryland General Assembly, Justin invests his best in smart solutions in key policy areas that affect families and businesses throughout the region. From an early age, we saw how Justin’s motivation to make a positive difference in public service flowed from a deeper sense of calling: to apply the truth of God’s Word in every aspect of life. As a husband, father and leader, we’ve seen the passion Justin brings to serving the Lord and helping others succeed. It’s quite a task to advance a strong principled conservative agenda for Maryland. Justin does it well because his goals in political challenges are anchored in the higher goal of following Jesus.
Invite a friend to join you and help us welcome others in Cafe Liberty (9:45-10:15 AM) and join in worship this Sunday, October 26th at 10:15 AM.
We’re delighted to share these opportunities for mission and ministry in November!

*Plans for our Operation Christmas Child mission-sharing:
First, as we’ve done each year, we invite you to fill your own shoeboxes for kids with the easy-to-follow steps at this link: https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/pack-a-shoe-box/
Secondly, participate in the Operation Christmas Child Packing Night on Thursday, November 6th.
This is our first mission outreach. We will be packing shoeboxes to share God’s love and the good news of Jesus Christ with children across the world.
How can you get involved?
1. Purchase shoebox items and leave them in our donation bin at the back of the church.
2. Donate money for us to do your shopping for you. Label the check with OCC in the memo line before dropping it in the offering box.
3. Attend the packing night to help us pack and pray over the boxes. Sign up for the night on the Connections table, so we know you are coming.
We look forward to partnering with you. Please let Laken or Hannah know if you have any questions.
Third, to help receiving shoeboxes here at church use Sign-up Genius (below) or the sign-up sheet on the Connections Table.
Joan Spangler’s team needs volunteers here at church at various times from Monday, November 17th-24th. The time-slots listed in the link below are either 3.5 or 4.5 hours (depending on the day). Multiple helpers are needed each day. Would you help us get an early start on lining up the volunteer team?
Feel free to share this opportunity with friends, neighbors or co-workers. Volunteers from several area churches will also join us here to support this exciting mission week.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and depart from evil.
This will bring health to your body and strength to your bones”
