Greetings to you all
At the busy mid-point of December, there are many points of need alongside festive gatherings, decorating, baking, shopping, gift-wrapping and connecting with loved ones and friends.
In the glory of God’s good news, we share a timeless treasure: The Almighty Creator becoming human. In His good news, thirsty souls are set free to truly trust the living God! In the shepherds’ candle 🕯 on the 3rd Sunday of Advent, we get a vivid example of how the birth of Jesus changes expectations and experiences for all those who hear His Word.
Shepherds startled by the splendor of angels learned to trust God in ways none of them could have imagined. With an infant’s cry from that rustic makeshift birthing place in Bethlehem, the realm of God’s eternal kingdom opened on earth in a totally unexpected way.
In awe-struck wonder, the shepherds found their way to a cave they may have used before for shelter, storage or other common tasks. As each shepherd stepped into that cave, a magnificent reality ignited in their hearts: A promised baby, heralded by angelic voices filling the night sky was their Savior and King!
Faith burst into a blaze within each shepherd’s soul as the very human cries of the newborn Christ captivated their attention. It’s that same blaze of glory that calls us into adoration for our King.
With a humble awareness that no human description can fully convey that manger scene, we walk in the footsteps of those shepherds whenever we sing “Come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord”.
[Weather updates: With snow in the forecast for Saturday night, we’ll be watching out for any need to change our regular schedule. “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior,
who daily bears our burdens.
Our God is a God who saves;
from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death.
Proclaim the power of God whose majesty is over Israel,
whose power is in the heavens…the God of Israel
gives power and strength to his people.”
(Psalm 68:19-20, 34-35 NIV)
In his love,
Pastor Joe
