Greetings to you all
One thing we can be sure is true for most everyone we know is that January is a “crunch time” on several fronts:
- House cleaning/decor changes after Christmas
- Re-organizing work-spaces
- Dieting decisions
- Goal-setting and re-thinking (quiet time essentials!)🤔
- Correspondence catch-up
- Scheduling long and short-term commitments
- Donations to favorite charities
- Financial changes and (oh no!) tax season details
- The gym…the gym….the gym [Did anyone say “gym”?]
- And so much more.
One guy I read about years ago said “I feel like Florida orange juice. I get squeezed fresh every morning.” 🍑
So, whether it’s a crunch or a squeeze, you can be sure you’re not alone.
Some decisions and details are no-brainers, easy-to-make although time-consuming. Others put our patience and resolve to a test. Either way, a thankful heart lightens the load.
So, here’s an anti-crunch and anti-squeeze “capsule” to take every day:
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him and bless His name.” (Psalm 100:4 NASB)
The beauty of bringing a burst of praise into our daily routines is that it’s a practice (even when only a minute or two!) that can fit into the most squeezed or crunched of days. Seriously! There’s a “song” for you in the midst of it all, and some simple way to say “Thank you, Lord” and it makes a difference.
That’s also part of what I think of as “overflow blessings” in the life of the church. Each gathering is part of God’s welcome into the grace-space where we tap into timeless truths that overflow into daily life.
Whatever else may be happening in life, praising God is fuel for a growing faith and refreshing for thirsty souls!

“Instruct those who are rich in this world’s goods not to be proud,
And not to fix their hopes on so uncertain a thing as money, but upon God,
Who endows us richly with all things to enjoy.
Tell them to hoard a wealth of noble actions by doing good,
to be ready to give away and to share,
and so, acquire a treasure which will form a good foundation for the future.
Thus they will grasp the life which is life indeed.”
(I Timothy 6:17-19 New English Bible)
