Greetings to you all
Becky and I began our trip this week biking in Northern Virginia and walking in Washington D.C., where we witnessed, alongside the great historic monuments we love, massive amounts of security fencing being set in place for tomorrow’s U.S. Army parade and other activities planned for the National Mall tomorrow and through the 4th of July.
Watching workers setting these giant barriers in place brought to mind a truth from Isaiah 26:1-4 about the hearts and minds of believers. God promises a secure peace for all who put their trust in the power of His name. With the hazards of his own people weighing heavily on his heart, Isaiah’s task was to re-orient his nation on the steady, invincible faithfulness of Almighty God.
First, to illustrate the power of what God provides, the prophet Isaiah referred to all the security measures put in place for Jerusalem, in times of peril: “We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts.”
Secondly, He spoke directly to God for us, as well as for the Israelites who faced threats in his time, when he prays “You, O LORD, will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You.”
Then, the prophetic focus of Isaiah 26 turns to each of us with a timeless reminder: “Trust in the LORD, for the LORD, yes the LORD Himself, is the Rock eternal.”
In just the same way that cities facing multiple threats must re-deploy their arsenal of protective resources repeatedly, as dangers arise, so we’re called to be equipped in ways that match the challenges that come to our own souls.
Tap into the arsenal of God’s Word today. Peace, a secure peace, is one of the treasures He offers us as we walk by faith.
