Honoring Patriots Across the Span of Time
At one America’s most unique places of honor for the heroes who served and sacrificed in the cause of freedom is called, simply, “The Punchbowl”.
Its official name is the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The legacy held within the crater of that extinct volcano on Oahu is one of hundreds of places dedicated to honoring the fallen in all U.S. engaged conflicts.
This past couple of weeks, Boy Scout troops and other community groups fanned out across the 40,000+ graves in the Punchbowl to place an honorary “lei” in the Hawaiian tradition, a ring of flowers on each marker. The honor due to all those who served so sacrificially for the cause of liberty is beyond what any reward or ceremony can confer.
On this Memorial Day weekend, we honor all the patriots serving now. And we pray for grace and comfort in the hearts of all who have lost a beloved veteran.
May each of you who hold the memory of a great patriot in your heart and all who are on active duty in military service today, be empowered by God’s grace and uplifted by the gratitude of freedom-loving people in our day.
